About this Product

The Irish Cruising Club's Sailing Directions, used and trusted since their first editions in 1930, are the standard work on small-craft pilotage of the coasts of Ireland and are often described as the "bible" for yachts.   The books aim to describe every feasible passage, port, harbour and anchorage on the coasts of Ireland, from the point of view of the small-craft skipper. They are continually updated by amendments on the web, and new editions are published every four to five years. They draw on the experience of generations of amateur and professional sailors. They are also carried by the ships of the Irish Naval Service, the Commissioners of Irish Lights and the Geological Survey of Ireland, and used as the basis of local knowledge manuals at several RNLI lifeboat stations.

Norman Kean has been Editor since 2005. He is a  lifelong sailor, a Yachtmaster and a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation. He and his wife Geraldine Hennigan have explored all the harbours and anchorages described in these books, most of them many times, those on the mainland of Ireland by road as well as by sea.  Norman has sailed round Ireland six times, and on all the Atlantic coasts of Scotland, the Faroes, France, Spain and the USA, as well as in the Mediterranean and across the Atlantic. He has written frequently for Yachting Monthly magazine and has been a contributing author to numerous other books and the RIN's best practice guide to the use of electronic navigation equipment on small craft.
